A Mother’s Reminder of the Power of Community Support

It’s hard to be a mother, and even harder to be a great mother. Erica is a shining example of this truth.
Her three children are her greatest joy – she relishes cooking their favorite meals, cracking silly jokes that light up their smiles, or spending Friday evenings playing board games together.
As a single mother, Erica is the glue that holds the house together and ensures her kids flourish in school, including her middle child, who is on the Autism spectrum.
Despite working during school hours and often picking up extra shifts, the rising costs of essentials like food, personal care items, and clothing recently pushed her already-tight budget to the brink. This left her filled with anxiety about how to provide for her children’s needs and remain the steadfast rock they rely on, on top of lingering fears of a potential eviction.
Yet even in the face of these dark times, Erica refused to back down. Drawing courage from her love for her kids, she recognized that asking for help was not a sign of weakness, but of strength. And that led to the call to Catholic Charities NH that restored her hope.
Our Community Services team worked hand-in-hand with Erica to review her financial situation and help her qualify for electric and gas payment plans to ease her immediate burden. Today, we continue to work together, creating a budget that accommodates the evolving needs of her family, ensuring her children can always have warm clothes and a dinner table with food.
Erica’s story is only possible because of the generosity of our supporters. Thanks to people like you, she and her boys now have the resources to navigate future challenges head-on, allowing Erica to remain the extraordinary mother her children cherish, as they continue sharing those precious moments of joy, love, and laughter.
