Meredith & Robert: Someone In Their Corner

Meredith and her husband, Robert, were reeling. After a long illness, their adult son, James, passed away.

The burden of their grief, combined with their financial responsibility for James’ remaining medical bills, weighed heavily on them. Their fixed income provided no room to cover their electricity bill. Worried the power could go off at any time, Meredith made the call to Catholic Charities NH.

Here’s where you come in. Our donor-supported Community Services program provides individuals and families, like Meredith and Robert, with a much-needed advocate, helping them with financial literacy coaching, connections to community resources and relief to move their lives forward.

Knowing the details of Meredith and Robert’s budget and story was a big help. It turned out that they were paying more than they needed to and we were able to reduce the monthly payment by 75%, to a level they could afford.

“I thought we had to pay what the bill said and that was that,” recalls Meredith. “I’m so grateful that Catholic Charities was in my corner and helped us get back to normal. We really thought there was no way out.”

Meredith and Robert’s story is a reminder that life can become overwhelming very quickly, but having people like you in their corner to restore hope makes all the difference.
