Rivier Awards Scholarships to Ten CCNH Nurses
Rivier University will make a major investment in New Hampshire’s nursing workforce by awarding 10 Project Advance scholarships to licensed practical nurses (LPNs) employed at Catholic Charities New Hampshire rehabilitation and long-term care nursing centers. Project Advance will enable scholarship recipients to earn an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree, which is a prerequisite to licensure as a registered nurse, without financial burden.
Project Advance scholarships have been made possible through the $300,000 gift of a Rivier University donor. “It is the vision of a generous and anonymous donor to fund 10 Project Advance scholarships, which include full tuition, books, and fees for employees of Catholic Charities New Hampshire,” says Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, Rivier’s President. “Ten students will be able to complete their associate degrees without interruption and will go on to proudly write the letters ‘RN’ after their name.” Rivier’s nursing classes are held on nights and weekends, enabling students to continue to work full-time while pursuing their degrees.
This collaboration between two Catholic, non-profit organizations preserves and advances healthcare consistent with their shared values. In addition, it directly supports diversity in the nursing workforce and promotes ongoing economic and community development.
“Our healthcare professionals work to bring compassionate care and healing to the lives of our residents every day,” says Tom Blonski, president & CEO of Catholic Charities New Hampshire. “To be able to make such a profound difference in the lives of our LPNs is a gift. This initiative will be life-changing for the Project Advance scholarship recipients, and its impact will extend into the facilities they work within and to the individuals they care for.”
In addition to the Project Advance scholarships, the University offers a 15% tuition discount to LPNs and RNs throughout the region, and supports affordable access to education by awarding more than $13 million in financial aid to students annually.
Prospective students must apply to the University and the Project Advance scholarship program. The scholarship is available to new students applying to Rivier’s ASN program for fall 2019 entrance; all applications must be submitted by April 15, 2019. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a history of academic and career success as a foundation for the rigorous nursing degree program. As LPNs, they will receive advanced placement in Rivier’s ASN program.
